LAHORE – Pakistan’s veteran cricket star Abdul Razzaq believes that committed organisers at grassroot level are required to save Pakistan sports from disaster.
Speaking as chief guest at the final of the Second SPM Lahore Veterans Cricket League at Ali Garh Ground Model Town Lahore on Monday, Razzaq said volunteers and committed workers were needed for the promotion of sports in the country.
He presented shield to SPM oraniser Aizad Syed for his contribution to cricket. He also praised Pakistan Veterans Cricket Association (PVCA)’s Chief Executive Officer Ashiq Qureshi. He gave away the winning trophy to SPM Stags who overwhelmed Ali Garh by 28 runs in the final to retain the trophy alongwith Rs.50,000. Shahid Anwar-led SPM made 144 in allotted 30 overs with Imtiaz Tarrar 27, Raza Butt 25.
Man of the final Zia Uddin made 24 and Asad Iqbal 18. Romail Bashir 3-23, Azmat Puri 3-41, Rehan Rauf 2-14 were successful bowlers. In reply Ali Garh fell short of target getting out for 116. Babar Bhandara were top scorers with 25 alongwith Tariq Mehmood 22, Bashir Bhatti 18, Romail 16. Ziauddin took 3-10, Sajjad Akber 3-15, Imtiaz Tarrar 2-23, Iftkhar 1-28. During the prize distribution, Kamran Khan and Shakil Malik were declared the best batsman and bowler respectively. Shakil also bagged Player of the Tournament award while Sana Ullah collected Best WK award.
