PMA flays Sheikh Zayed Medical College’s high fees

LAHORE – The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) office-bearers including Dr Sarwar Chaudhry, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Dr Tanveer Anwar, Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Ashraf Nizami, Dr Izhar Chaudhry, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Akhtar Rashid and Dr Salman Kazmi on Sunday condemned the Government Sheikh Zayed Medical College, Lahore’s administration for charging Rs 0.5 million annual fees from its students and termed it a “great injustice”.
They urged Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani to decrease the fees and bring it par with fees of other medical colleges in Punjab. The Sheikh Zayed Medical College Lahore is the only medical college in Punjab, which is being run by the federal government and charging Rs 0.5 million fee despite being a government-run medical college.
The PMA office bearers also appealed to chief justices of the Supreme Court and the Lahore High Court to take suo moto notice of the issue.
