LAHORE – The National Highways & Motorway Police (NH&MP) N-5 Central has decided to declare 2011 as the “Year of Road Safety”, NH&MP Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Ibne Hussain said on Monday while chairing a meeting of senior officers at the agency’s zonal office.
Hussain asked officers to perform their duties efficiently in foggy conditions and educate people about road safety measures for minimising chances of any untoward incidents.
He said that reducing accidents is the NH&MP’s prime responsibility and directed officers to immediately respond to any helpline 130 call and provide every necessary help to people in trouble. Hussain directed officers to treat commuters politely for demonstrating the NH&MP’s aim of developing a culture of soft policing in Pakistan.
The NH&MP DIG directed officers to check fog lights of vehicles and asked commuters to paste reflecting stickers. He asked the patrolling officers to brief motorists about unnecessary travelling and advise them to travel between 10am and 7pm.
He also appealed to commuters to call NH&MP’s helpline 130, before starting their journey, to get details about road and weather conditions, keep a safe distance between vehicles, make sure that wipers of their vehicles are in a working condition and use emergency indicators during fog.
