WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama Saturday vowed to keep the US economy growing in 2011 and reminded Republicans taking control of the House of Representatives that they have a “shared responsibility to move this country forward.”
“As President, that’s my commitment to you: to do everything I can to make sure our economy is growing, creating jobs, and strengthening our middle class. That’s my resolution for the coming year,” Obama said in his Saturday radio address.
Despite recent economic news “that suggests our recovery is gaining traction,” Obama cautioned, “we’re still just emerging from a once-in-a-lifetime recession.”
“It’s time to make some serious decisions about how to keep our economy strong, growing, and competitive in the long run,” he said, appealing to America’s tradition of overcoming obstacles through hard work, imagination and a spirit of compromise.
