Gilani asks for unity in New Year

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani urged the nation to get united for people’s welfare, country’s security and for the promotion of democracy.
In his New Year message, the prime minister congratulated the nation on the arrival of New Year and prayed to Allah to save the nation from natural disasters and keep it on the path of progress.
“Nations do face good and bad times and wisdom demands that humans should devise their future strategy in the light of their past experiences to achieve success”, he said. The prime minister said the last year was challenging and difficult for the country as it faced the worst floods of its history and fought terrorism and extremism.
However, it was satisfactory that the nation coped with those challenges confidently, he said adding that the floods caused irreparable damage in the country. The government took all possible steps for the timely and effective assistance of the flood-hit people and the international community generously extended help in the effort, he added.
The courageous and patriotic Pakistanis and the law enforcing agencies are battling with terrorism and the day is not far when terrorists would be completely eliminated from the country, he added. Gilani said the government continued its journey for the welfare of people, prosperity of the country and for its security and sovereignty.
He said that international economic recession affected the country’s economy badly and as a result, people are facing price hike, unemployment and load-shedding.
