PESHAWAR – Three US missile attacks spaced just hours apart have killed at least 19 people in the North Waziristan Agency, private TV channels quoted unnamed intelligence officials as saying on Saturday.
At least nine people were killed in the first attack, when missiles struck a moving vehicle in the tribal region, the officials said. About two hours later, drones struck the same site again, killing five people who had gathered to retrieve the bodies.
The third raid targeted a moving vehicle, killing four people in the Mohammed Khel area of the agency, the officials said. The identities and nationalities of the people killed were not immediately known.
The attacks came a day after four missiles struck a convoy, killing eight suspected fighters belonging to the Haqqani group. Up to 35 people were believed to have been killed in similar attacks on Monday and Tuesday.
A US-based policy think-tank estimates that 118 US drone attacks in 2010 killed approximately 2,100 people in the tribal areas.
