LAHORE – Former Executive Committee Member of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) Tahir Javaid Malik has hailed the Commerce Ministry decision to withdraw SRO regarding used cars import under personal baggage, gift and transfer of residence schemes.
In a press statement issued here on Friday, Tahir Javaid Malik said that the decision would go a long way and local vending industry would get a new lease of life. He said that the permission to allow five-year old cars was bound to damage local vendor industry.
He said that vendors warmly welcomed the decision of Commerce Ministry as it was a step in the right direction.
He stated that vendors were deeply concerned that new entrants could be allowed to import 100 percent CKD parts at five percent, 10 percent and 20 percent duty rates in the first, second and third years respectively. Tahir Javed Malik urged policy makers to ensure consultation with the real stakeholders, while forming new policies regarding trade and industry.
