ISLAMABAD – Administrators at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) are recruiting staff for Federal Medical College without fulfilling legal requirements, Pakistan Today has learnt.
PIMS is going to start the Federal Medical College within a few weeks and the process of getting recognition from the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has also been initiated, while the dean and joint executive director have already been appointed.
A source in PIMS said “recruitments for the medical college are being done without consulting the dean and joint executive director of the college, which is the basic requirement for the recruitments”.
Dean Dr Ghazala Mehmood said, “I don’t know anything about the recruitments, as I am not part of the selection committee.” Same was the response of Joint Executive Director Iqbal Raza.
The college would initially be set up in the premises of PIMS, while 10 acres would be allocated for it at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
Another PIMS official said professors, associate professors, assistant professors and demonstrators, having experience in teaching anatomy, biochemistry, forensic medicines and other subjects related to basic sciences, were being interviewed for 30 vacant posts.
“No senior official is involved in the selection teams for recruitment,” he alleged.
