LAHORE – The markets and business centres of the city will remain closed today and two rallies will be taken out against a possible change in blasphemy laws.
The decision was made during a meeting of traders of different markets of the city, including Liberty Market President Zahid Javed and Hafeez Centre President Malik Kaleem. The traders said all city markets will be closed completely, including fruit and vegetable markets.
It was decided that Shah Alam Market, Azam Cloth Market, Akbari Mandi, Abid Market, Jail Road, The Mall, Ichra, Model Town, Gulberg, Samanabad, Mozang and all other markets will observe complete shutter down.
The traders will take out a rally from Masjid-e-Shohada and Liberty Market after the Juma prayers. Qaumi Tajir Ittehad General Secretary Nazeer Chohan said traders were not showing solidarity with any religious party but they were showing their ‘affection’ with their religion. They said they will foil any governmental attempt in changing blasphemy laws.
