2010: Parliament approved 23 bills

ISLAMABAD – The year 2010 saw 23 bills being approved by the parliament with the Constitution (Eighteenth Amendment) Act topping the list. Another important bills passed by the parliament was the Sacked Employees (Re-instatement) Act because of which 9000 people were reemployed and which was projected as one of the People’s Party’s greatest achievement. However this bill had many eyebrows raised also because of the country’s present financial crunch.
Other bills passed by the parliament include the National Disaster Management Act, the Degree Awarding Status to Dawood College of Engineering and Technology Karachi Act, the Federal Employees Benevolent Fund and Group Insurance (Amendment) Act, the Competition Act, the Pakistan Trade Control of Wild Fauna and Flora Act, Islamabad High Court Act, Finance Act, the Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Act, the Alternative Energy Development Board Act, the National School of Public Policy (Amendment) Act, the Pakistan Naval Academy (Award of Degrees) (Amendment) Act. Moreover, the Institute of Space Technology Act, 2010, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Act, the Patents (Amendment) Act, the Anti-Money Laundering Act, the Transplantation of
Human Organs and Tissues Act, the National Command Authority Act, the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, the Service Tribunals (Amendment) Act, the Removal from Service (Special Powers) (Repeal) Act and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act
Meanwhile, 14 bills including the Civil Servants (Amendment) Act, the Imports and Exports (Control) (Amendment) Act, the National Assembly Secretariat (Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Act, the Banking Companies (Amendment) Act, the Pakistan Commissions of Inquiry (Amendment) Act, the High Treason (Punishment) (Amendment) Act, the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act, the Political Parties Order (Amendment) Act, the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) (Amendment)Act, the Muslim Family Laws (Amendment) Act, the Constitution (Amendment) Act, the Foreigners (Amendment) Act and the Pakistan Private Hospitals, Clinics and other Private Healthcare Units Regulatory Authority Act were also passed in 2010.
