PWD officials caught red-handed taking bribe

LAHORE – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two senior officers of Pakistan Public Works Department (PWD), red handed, while taking bribe from a contractor on Thursday. FIA sources said Karamat Sheikh, a government contractor, submitted an application to the FIA Multan Circle Additional Director Rana Irfan and alleged that the two PWD officers; Executive Engineer Khizar Hayat and Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) of Bahawalpur office Javed Majoka, were demanding Rs 0.15 million each as bribe for passing a construction bill, and advised that if trap raid was conducted, both officers could be arrested.
Rana forwarded this application, seeking trap permission, to the FIA Punjab Director Zafar Ahmad Qureshi. After getting the permission Rana constituted a team, which with under the supervision of magistrate, conducted a trap raid and arrested the two officers, while taking bribe from the complaint/contractor. In this connection, a case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is under way. FIA director said this raid was a result of Anti Corruption Drive launched on the direction of the interior minister and FIA director general, against corrupt officials of the federal departments/corporations.
