Police arrest carjacker, impound 12 vehicles

LAHORE – On the direction of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen, the Anti Vehicle Lifting Staff (AVLS) City Division Lahore have arrested a ringleader of Akbar Ali car lifting gang and have recovered 12 cars worth Rs 70 lakh from their possession.
The criminal has confessed to 17 cases of car snatching and stealing during preliminary interrogation.
CRO SP Sajjad Hassan Manj, on the CCPO’s directions, directed Anti Vehicles Lifting Staff DSP Saleem Mukhtar Butt to crackdown on car lifting gangs. CRO SP constituted a special team under the supervision of AVLS Incharge Mehdi Hassan and other police officials.
The police collected particulars of the Akbar Ali car lifting gang and arrested its ringleader Akbar Ali.
The criminals’ modus operandi is that they use the master-key to unlock vehicles and then change their number plates and transport them to Mardan through the Motorway, where they sell them at cheaper rates. The areas in which this criminal had committed crimes include Qila Gujar Singh, Race Course, Sanda, Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Chung, Sattokatla, Gulberg, Icchra, Nishter Colony, Lyton Road and Factory Area.
CCPO has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police team. The other members of the police team are ASI Amjad Ali, Naeem Yaseen, Head Constable Muhammad Ismaeal, Aftab Noor, Muhammad Aslam, Constable Muhammad Shafique, Abdul Gafoor, Muhammad Illyas, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Shabir, Muhammad Ashraf and Qamar-ul-Zama.
Two found dead: A 55-year-old man was found dead in Shafiqabad police precincts on Thursday.
The deceased is yet to be identified and according to the police, the body was lying beside the main road when locals spotted the body and informed the police. Police suspects that the deceased was a drug addict and died of drug abuse. The body has been shifted to the morgue.
MaN dies in Accident: A 40-year-old man was found dead in Chung Multan Road Police precincts on Thursday. Police suspects that the deceased could have been knocked down by a car.
Thedeceased is yet to be identified and according to the police, the deceased was a drug addict and while he was crossing the road an unidentified car knocked him down. Police made several announcements in the area but nobody approached to claim the body, which was later shifted to the morgue.
