ISLAMABAD – The National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights on Wednesday condemned the April 12 killings in Abbottabad during a protest for an independent Hazara province, demanding the recording of statements of all injured persons, complete investigation and finalization of challans.
The committee, which met with MNA Riaz Fatiana in the chair, recommended the registration of cases against the SHO, DCO, DPO, RPO concerned and relevant medical officer for false reporting on the day of the incident. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary and inspector general would be responsible to implement the decision and the DCO, as an administrator, would act as complainant and furnish the compliance report, the committee said.
The Committee advised the Cabinet Division and provinces to ensure special facilities of sports, recreation, transport for 2.49 percent disabled persons. It also recommended to observe 10 percent job quota in all public and private sector organisations and the inclusion of remarks ,”quota for disabled persons”, in advertisements and furnish a compliance report within 10-days.
The ten percent quota for women should also be observed, the committee recommended. The Ministry of Interior was asked to make necessary legislation in the Islamabad Capital Territory and municipal areas with regard to adulteration of food and drinks.
Regarding the rape case of Ms Shazia, an employee of Daewoo bus service, the committee argued that the victim and her mother had already given statements under section 43 and second statement could not be recorded.
The committee expressed concern that nothing substantial had been achieved regarding last year’s riots in Gojra. The committee also expressed concern that a 70-year imprisonment was awarded to one Said Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and no remission was granted.
