BORMIO – Canada’s Pierre-Louis Helie and American Marco Sullivan have been taken to hospital in Innsbruck, Austria after falling in training for the downhill here, organisers said on Wednesday. Both skiers suffered concussion after tumbling during the second training run on Tuesday.
Helie was knocked momentarily unconscious and had to be immediately transported to hospital by helicopter, but Sullivan was able to pick himself up and ski to the bottom of the piste before being taken ill later on. Helie, 24, and 30-year-old Sullivan spent Tuesday night under observation at a hospital in nearby Sondalo. On Wednesday morning, both men were transported to Innsbruck’s University Clinic, which specialises in neurological treatments for injured skiers.
Doctors reported that both Helie and Sullivan were in a stable condition. Meanwhile, Swedish skier Kajsa Kling will miss the rest of the women’s Alpine skiing World Cup season after a fall in the giant slalom here, doctors revealed on Wednesday. The 22-year-old, born on Christmas Day, sustained serious ligament damage in both knees after falling on Tuesday.
