Aisam to be feted by IOC

LAHORE – Pakistan tennis star and the country’s accomplished sportsman Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi received yet another acknowledgment and honour for Pakistan.
To acknowledge his contribution in promoting a message of peace through sports, the International Olympic Council has announced to decorate Aisam and his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna’s shirts in IOC Museum Lausanne, Switzerland. The peace slogan of ‘Stop War Start Tennis’ adopted by Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna received huge applause from sports lovers all over the world.
They have been wearing shirts with ‘Stop War Start Tennis’ slogans during and after the Wimbledon and in recognition of their universal peace slogan the World Peace and Sport organization of Monaco has already given them the prestigious Peace Image of the Year Award. Aisam will leaving on Wednesday for India where he will participate in ATP Championship in Chennai. After this he plans to move to Australia to participate in ATP Championship in Sydney and then in the Australian Open in Melbourne.
In a statement here, Aisam, who is also the Goodwill Ambassador of UNDP, has emphasised that we should not forget the miseries of millions of flood affectees of Pakistan who still need a lot of help and support. “Personally I am still trying my best to not only raise awareness for their needs but also making efforts to raise funds for them. I have two projects in hand. One is to hold a fund-raising tennis match and secondly I am requesting top tennis stars like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and others to donate their signature racquets, shoes and clothings etc. which will be auctioned to raise funds,” he added.
