Rawalpindi police foil terrorism bid

RAWALPINDI – Police on Monday foiled a terrorism attack by recovering a heavy quantity of lethal weapons from a car during search at a checkpost on Chakri Road.
The weapons included 25 repeaters of twelve bore gun, including six revolving and 20 magazine guns, 70 thirty-bore pistols and 25,000 rounds of 30-bore. Police arrested two culprits Rabnawaz and Muhammad Amin and impounded the car as well. Regional Police Officer Hamid Mukhtar Gondal told a news conference that the two culprits were stopped for routine checking and upon the vehicle’s search, officials recovered the large cache of arms.
He said the culprits had so far not disclosed their intended place of attack but interrogation was underway. The RPO said strict vigilance was being observed to check crimes in the region, especially in Rawalpindi. To a question, he said three suspected culprits of a banned organisation are in the custody of police on remand, and they were being interrogated about then parade ground terrorist incident.
To a question on the car race accident in Bahria Town, Rawalpindi, Gondal said two culprits – the driver of the car and Behria Town manager Waleed – were in custody, while Interpol had issued warrants for the arrest of the remaining two.
