NISTE workers call for 2 months’ blocked salaries

ISLAMABAD – The daily-wage employees of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISTE) staged a demonstration on Monday against the high-ups at the NISTE demanding their salaries due for over two months.
As many as 70 workers of NISTE, a subsidiary of Education Ministry, held the protest on Faiz Ahmad Faiz Road outside the institute’s office. They chanted slogans against the NISTE Director General Shaigan Sharif Malik, who they said was responsible for non-disbursement of their salaries.
Majority of protesters said they were already low-paid workers and they desperately needed their meager salaries to make their ends meet. Speaking on the occasion one of the protesters, Muhammad Ali said, “The management under DG Shaigan Sharif Malik has bent upon terminate the services of all daily-wagers as he has done at the Academy of Education Planning and Management (AEPAM)”.
The protesting workers accused the DG of abusing his powers and misappropriating the institute’s resources. The urged the minister of Education Department to take note of their problems.
