The debate on RGST has raised critical voices against the government, thereby disrupting the governance on daily basis. But if we want increased tax net, we will have to show compliance to the big multi-step tax plan, of which RGST is the first step. In order to raise the tax to GDP ratio from 2%, to 10%, the implementation of RGST is necessary. Small business holders, who were earlier exempted from increased threshold of 7%, would now come under the tax net. With this, not only the fiscal space would increase but also social contract would be strengthened between govt and people through welfare projects.
