LAHORE – Promoting education is essential for combating terrorism and solving other problems being faced by the country, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Hamza Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday. He was addressing a symposium held in connection with the King Edward Medical University’s (KEMU) 150th anniversary.
The MNA said that democracy would have to be strengthened for continuity of development projects and solving problems of youth were of vital importance for the country’s progress and prosperity. Hamza said that the Punjab government had provided relief assistance of Rs 20,000 per family to flood victims through Watan Cards and allocated Rs 10 billion for this purpose due to which funds were short for increasing salaries of doctors and nurses. He told the audience that as soon as funds were available, increase in salaries of doctors and paramedical staff would be announced. Hamza, on behalf of his father Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, announced provision of 10 acres land and Rs 50 million for constructing new KEMU campuses.
The MNA said that as long as the print and electronic media and judiciary were active,
the country would move in the right direction and all political parties should solve problems of the masses. He said that if 26 political parties could unanimously pass the 19th Constitutional Amendment in parliament, there should be no any difficulty in devising a joint strategy for resolving basic problems of the masses.
Hamza said that the federal and provincials governments need to adopt solid planning for making the youth, who constituted 65 percent population of the country, as useful citizens of society. He told the audience that doctors and nurses belonged to a noble profession and services of doctors during floods were hailed by the entire nation.
The MNA said that the country’s 47 percent population was deprived of basic health facilities, as no sincere effort was made in the past for improvement of the health sector. He said that the Punjab government had put the province on the right track by attaching top priority to uplift of the health and education sectors. Hamza said that there was no shortage of talent, courage and commitment in the nation,
which was demonstrated by people during the earthquake and recent floods. He said that the country’s system was not bad and it depended on the leadership and how it operated the system.
The MNA said that the same system was operating successfully in India and a strong faith in democracy could help resolve problems being faced by citizens.
