KARACHI – President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government was not scared of political actors’ thinking, threats and their propaganda, as “we are the followers of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.”
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of PIA employees housing scheme, the president said, “We would live in history and the political actors in headlines. This difference would always remain between them and us.” He said the people of the country would always remember the PPP government for its performance and practical steps taken for the welfare of masses and the development of the country.
“A prosperous Pakistan will be a becoming revenge for the assassinations of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto will be,” he said. He said members of the PPP were not political actors “who are only seen on TV screens, they are taking practical steps to save the country and for making the country prosperous”. Zardari said he was aware of the inflation and unemployment, however, the PPP was still “fighting Benazir’s murderers”.
“Sri Lanka fought for 40 years and the PPP is ready for a long war with terrorism,” he said, adding that “nobody will be allowed to capture the country in the name of Islam and with the force of weapons”. “Benazir Bhutto accepted martyrdom for the country as she wanted to stay alive in the pages of history,” he said. He said Benazir was assassinated because of her people’s-friendly politics.
Zardari said those who killed Benazir did not keep in mind that her legacy would stay with every PPP follower. He said he would keep watch on the performance of the Prime Minister, ministers and government officials. The president assured the gathering that housing facilities would be provided to every Pakistani and workers would get ownership in government entities.
Zardari said workers of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would be regularised and their salaries would be increased.
