Pakistan look to junior teams to end cricket isolation

LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chief Operating Officer Subhan Ahmed said Sunday that the International Cricket Council’s Future Tour programme was troublesome for Pakistan.
He said because of lack of slots, it was difficult to bring international teams to Pakistan. He, however, said that plans to invite junior teams from Bangladesh and Zimbabwe were under consideration for 2011
Meanwhile, he said Pakistan-Afghanistan match in XVI Asian Games held in Guangzhou (China) in November was not fixed.
In his first interaction with media, Subhan said investigation into the match-fixing allegations found nothing wrong in the match. “We spoke to all stakeholders, including manager, coach and captain and found no wrongdoings in the match,” he said.
The Pakistan team comprising their second string players suffered a shock defeat against Afghanistan in the semi-finals of the newly introduced T20 cricket in the Asiad. Some players were accused of match-fixing and critics said they deliberately played badly and slowly and lost the game to Rashid Latif-coached Afghan team.
Responding to a question about Pakistani players’ non participation in Indian Premier (IPL) League, he said,” none of the players approached the PCB for permission.
