KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday slammed the summoning of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief by the US, threatening to topple the incumbent government if the ISI chief was sent to the US.
Addressing a public gathering at Bhit Shah over telephone from London, the MQM chief said, “If the US summons someone from Pakistan, the Supreme Court of Pakistan must do the same.” Talking to people from various districts of Sindh, he said the people of the country wanted independence from international powers, as he reiterated his demand for the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
He said only World Bank loans were not the remedy to the country’s problems. “MQM is fighting a war to protect Pakistan. The party wants to put an end to exploitation of the system,” Altaf said. He said he was announcing a war for the prosperity of the people of the province, calling the gathering an attempt to save Pakistan and to rid it of alien clutches.
“The party message has permeated throughout the country, making clear that the resources of the provinces are the right of the people living there.” “The Kalabagh Dam is not only opposed by a ‘big party of Sindh’, the MQM strongly opposes the dam itself,” Altaf said. He said the MQM had rejected the reformed general sales tax, adding that agriculture tax would be imposed on landlords.
