ISLAMABAD/QUETTA: Rumours were rife in the federal capital on Friday that Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi had resigned due to his differences with the provincial government and the province’s deteriorating law and order.
Magsi had rushed to Islamabad following reports that the PML-Q and JUI-F were working out a power-sharing agreement to form a coalition government in Balochistan. Besides holding meetings with a number of senior leaders, he had also met PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
However, Magsi rejected the news aired by some TV channels about his resignation, saying it was an issue pending with the president for the last one-and-a-half years.
Talking to Pakistan Today over telephone from Karachi, Magsi said he did not know how the media ran the story of his fresh resignation, clarifying that he had tendered resignation one-and-a-half years ago, which President Asif Ali Zardari was yet to decide on.
He said Zardari asked him at the time to continue as the governor and he was doing just that. Magsi said that he had not tendered any fresh resignation. Asked about his visit to Islamabad, he said that he went to the federal capital to meet Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain in his personal capacity.
