LAHORE – A delegation of students from Balochistan, Sindh and Kyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday visited the Government College University Lahore. The 32-member delegation of position holders from the three provinces arrived in Punjab on a one-week visit under the chief minister’s programme “Inter-Provincial Tour of Talented Students.”
The students, during their visit at GCU, said they were inspired by the noble laureate Prof Dr Abdus Salam. The Nobel Prize remained the centre of attraction among the position holders and they were briefed in detail about the life and achievements of Dr Salam.
GCU Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed told that Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Italy Director Prof Dr Katepalli R Sreenivasan had gifted the original certificate to GCU because Dr Salam had studied at Government College from 1942 to 1946 and had taught there from 1951 to 1954.
Waheed said that despite being a scientist, Dr Salam had great interest in literature and it was evident from the fact that he was also editor The Ravi, an annual literary magazine of GCU. Dr Salam received the Nobel Prize Certificate from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on December 10, 1979.
