Good governance – Sharifs likely to gift key post to loyal ex-LHC CJ

LAHORE – The Punjab government led by Shahbaz Sharif is likely to “gift” an important post to former Lahore High Court chief justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif for his unshaken loyalty and time-tested friendship with the Sharifs.
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif visited Justice (r) Sharif at his residence and discussed with him the basics of the new task and other related issues. A member of the PML-N Central Organising Committee told Pakistan Today that the parleys between Nawaz and Justice (r) Sharif was in continuation of an informal agreement that after the former LHC CJ retired, he would be awarded a “higher post”.
He said a house in GOR-I had already been allotted to Justice (r) Sharif and the renovation was in process now. As the party wanted to keep the meeting secret, Nawaz went to the former CJ’s house with minimum security cover, he said.
An official at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said a senior official opposed the house’s allotment saying that the retired government official who had his own house elsewhere could not be awarded an allotment in GOR-I. Punjab government’s spokesman Pervaiz Rashid confirmed the meeting but said it was a courtesy get-together.
