ISLAMABAD – The JUI-F decided against joining the PML-Q to form a coalition government in Balochistan as it did not have even a single Baloch member in the provincial assembly to be appointed the chief minister.
The JUI-F Central Executive Council (CEC), which met on Wednesday, was divided over whether to continue as part of the present political set up in Balochistan or make a move to form its own government with its parliamentary leader Abdul Wassey as the chief minister, a JUI-F source told Pakistan Today on Thursday.
The party CEC discussed the overall political situation in the country and the party’s future line of action regarding governments in Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. The source said Wassey tried to convince the meeting that it was the best time for the JUI-F to make an attempt to win the chief minister’s slot, however, other CEC members including provincial chief Muhammad Khan Sherani opposed the idea.
The source said a majority of the members feared that the attempt might end in disappointment, as the JUI-F had no Baloch MPA in the province. They were of the view that traditionally a Baloch ruled the province and under the circumstances, it would be almost impossible to win the sympathies of Baloch parliamentarians for a non-Baloch candidate.
