LAHORE – Around 4,000 commandos and 2,000 policemen will be on duty at and around churches in various areas of Lahore on Christmas Eve, Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Aslam Tareen said on Thursday.
He was talking to a 15-member Christian delegation led by Reverend Dr Majeed Able. The CCPO said that Lahore Police has been put on high alert on Christmas Eve and police commandos had been deployed at all churches in the city and more than 4,000 policemen would be on duty at entry and exit points of Lahore.
The CCPO directed divisional SPs to form special raiding teams to take stern action against people who fire shots in the air and those doing wheelies on Christmas Eve and New Year. He directed all officers to collect information about drug peddlers, people carrying illegal weapons, bootleggers and liquor selling points in the city and take stern action against them.
The CCPO directed officers to gather information about places where New Year functions would be held, so that immediate action could be taken against people involved in setting off fireworks. He warned that nobody would be allowed to display arms on these occasions and directed divisional SPs to personally monitor security officials under their command and submit performance reports on a daily basis.
“In case of negligence or mismanagement, action will be taken not only against the SHO and investigation supervisor but an explanation would also be sought from the SPO concerned,” he added.
