QUETTA – Shahzain Bugti, provincial president of the Jamhoori Watan Party, and the grandson of former Balochistan chief minister Nawab Akbar Bugti, arrested along with his 17 bodyguards by the Frontier Constabulary, private TV channels reported on Wednesday.
The convoy was stopped at the Buleli check post before being detained by the FC personnel. The paramilitary force has recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition and would return the licensed weapons if found any, an official said. Shahzain also tried to escape from the scene but the security forces failed his attempt.
Shahzain called the incident a conspiracy to stop him from entering Dera Bugti. He said that he was coming back from Chaman after attending fateha of Jeelani Khan Achakzai, a local leader. The FC intercepted the 12-vehicle fleet at 4am for checking at the check post, another channel reported.
Deputy Inspector General of Quetta Police (Operations) Hamid Shakil and officers of other law enforcement agencies reached the spot, and informed the media that the paramilitary force have detained Shahzain and his party men, the channel reported.
Talking to Geo News channel, Shahzain said that he has been victimized and the arms belonged to the Frontier Constabulary. “I am talking to US Embassy about the incident,” he added. The channel confirmed that heavy weaponry has been recovered from the custody of the JWP leader.
