LAHORE: A concerted effort on the government and political parties’ part can bring Dr Aafia Siddiqui back, International Justice Network Executive Director Tina Foster, the attorney representing Aafia’s family, said in a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. She said US administration will have to listen since they had arrested her in Pakistan and had deported her illegally.
The US did not have the right to imprison her thousands of miles away from her family and if Pakistani authorities do nothing, then it will be considered as their tacit consent for the same treatment to be meted out to each Pakistani. “This is not an issue of a single woman. It affects all of you and if you don’t stand up for Aafia, no one will stand up for you when your time comes,” she added Dr Fozia, Aafia’s sister, said she would love to meet President Asif Zardari and Chief of Army Staff for her sister’s release.
