ISLAMABAD: The audit director general on Tuesday told the Public Accounts Committee that the auditor general of Pakistan would register FIRs against those public sector organisations which refused to produce audit records.
He was briefing the special committee of the PAC, which was chaired by Zahid Hamid. Federal Audit Director General Syed Gulzar Hussnain told the committee that the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) had illegally sold goods donated for Afghan Refugees between 1988 and 2000.
He said the sold goods were worth Rs 16 million and the ministry had refused to produce the relevant record of over Rs 14 million, adding that around 250 vehicles donated by UNHCR were being blatantly misused by SAFRON officials. The committee was also informed that numerous recruitments had been made in the Federal Directorate of Education under the garb of reinstatement of sacked employees, which were in total contradiction and negation of rules and regulations. PAC observed that FIRs would be lodged against heads of departments and organisations that refused to furnish their records to audit officials in the future.
