PMA demands Janki Devi Hospital’s reopening

LAHORE – The closure of Janki Devi Hospital for the last three months and four days has led to the suffering of thousands of pregnant women who are forced to go to emergencies of other hospitals during labor.
Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) office bearers, Prof Yasmin Rashid, Dr M Tanveer Anwar, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Izhar Chaudhry and Dr Salman Kazmi have protested on the closure of the maternity hospital and demanded from the Pakistan prime minister to suspend the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Asif Hashmi on his negligence, and order to reopen the hospital, as the hospital’s closure was adversely affecting the image of the federal government in public.
PMA appealed to the Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry to take suomoto notice and direct the ETPB authorities to reopen the hospital.
