LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board has filed an appeal with the Federal Board of Revenue seeking an exemption in income tax when the amendment in the second schedule of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001 comes into force. PCB chairman Ijaz Butt took up the matter with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani during a reception in honour of the Pakistan women cricket team that clinched the gold medal in the Asian Games.
Now it has been learnt the PCB has formally asked the FBR to consider its appeal in light of the fact that it was not in the tax circle and thus the exemption be restored again. An official of the PCB said the income tax exemption for the PCB was withdrawn a few years ago along with many other exemptions but the PCB Chairman requested the Prime Minister recently and only after that the request has been filed.
