LAHORE: Newage Cables and Rijas shared opening day honours in the TREET Polo Cup that saddled into action here at the Lahore Polo Club ground on Tuesday. Newage Cables defeated Dollar East 9-6 whereas Rijas downed Zafa 6-4 to show their authority in the game.
Newage Cables’ Shah Qublai Alam, Hamza Mawaz Khan and Taimur Mawaz Khan left the Dollar East short of options after their goal spree though the losing side was dominant when the game started. Sufi brothers, Haris and Aamir, provided Dollar East two goals lead but their defense was too weak and later they conceded four consecutive goals. Although Ahmed Nawaz Tiwana reduced the margin of lead with a 40-yards penalty by the close of second chukker, but Newage responded with four goals.
Shah Qublai Alam showed his class by producing three goals for Newage. Dollar East came up with another three goals in the final chukker with Aamir scoring two but before that Qublai had consolidated the lead. In the other match of the day, Rijas were out of sorts but still won. In the first chukker, Zafa banged in three goals. Mohsin Atta Khan Khosa was star of the first session for the losing side while Asif Tiwana restored parity.
But in the later quarters Rijas came up with six goals. Atif Tiwana scored four of the total six goals and the two were scored by Faisal Shahzad. Mian Hussain Iftikhar, Malik Azam Hayat Noon and Naveed Sheikh supervised the matches.
