KARACHI: The students’ syndicate of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) – a body of former students, who topped in their intermediate examination in nine faculties – has stressed the need to modify the curriculum to meet international standards.
They also requested the board’s management to alter the pattern of exam papers and increase the grammar portion to improve students’ language skills. BIEK Chairman Anwer Ahmed Zai told the syndicate’s members that the board would forward their recommendations to the higher authorities for consideration.
He expressed hope that changes could be expected in June next year after shifting of powers from the Centre to the provinces.
“Making changes in the curriculum comes under the Federal Board of Education’s powers, which would be transferred to the province as per the 18th Amendment.” However, the board management would discuss with all stakeholders the suggestion to make changes in the current pattern of the exam papers.
After evaluating these suggestions, the board would adopt them to improve the examination system.
Speaking on the occasion as a chief guest, Sindh Information Technology Minister Raza Haroon expressed pleasure over the involvement of students in the policy-making process.
He hoped for improvement in the education sector after students’ participation, and lauded the board’s efforts to establish the students’ syndicate for discussion on the education system.
