Charity the winner in drawn polo match

LAHORE: Guard Group played an improbable 6-6 draw against Bank Alfalah in a charity polo match hosted by the Lahore Polo Club under the banner of an organisation ‘Polo the Pakistan’ here at the LPC’s Aibak ground on Sunday. Prior to the electrifying polo encounter, a tent-pegging competition was organised to entertain the guests who contributed by purchasing the tickets for the rehabilitation of the flood affectees which devastated the country in monsoon a few months back.
MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, son of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, was among the guests of honour with Senior Advisor to the Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa. Both the teams, who were equal on handicap of 10, were locked in an even battle throughout the match. The opening chukker produced four goals – two each coming from Guard Grounp and Bank Alfalah.
Later, when the bankers took three goals lead Guard Group restored parity with three back to back goals. In the fourth chukker, Bank Alfalah edged ahead with one goal and the Guard riders successfully leveled the score again. Saqib Khakwani, Qublai Alam, Taimur Ali Malik and Taimur Mawaz Khan were the scorers from Guard Group with two goals apiece. Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana, Atif Yar Tiwana and Sufi Amir added two goals each from Bank Alfalah side. Top rated Shah Shamyl Alam remained scoreless. Mian Hussain Iftikhar and Azhar Ali were the umpires.
