ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Sunday made phone calls to Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) President Ijazul Haq and Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and discussed with them the current political situation with focus on the ‘deepening cracks’ in the Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government.
Altaf’s phone conversations were part of a series of such contacts with important political personalities of the country, in which the MQM chief has been complaining about the rampant corruption in ruling cadres, worsening law and order situation and problems of poor governance. Ijazul Haq told Pakistan Today that Altaf was extremely worried about the political situation.
He said that he had suggested that the MQM chief convene an all parties’ conference (APC) to evolve a joint strategy for resolving the grave issues confronting the country. Shaikh Rashid, who also spoke at length with Altaf on the current political scenario, said that he told Altaf the people of Pakistan were ‘fed up’ with the PPP government. Rashid said Altaf had called him to better assess the prevailing political situation and take his (Rashid) opinion on the matter.
Fazl accuses PPP of double standards: Expressing solidarity with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman on Sunday lashed out at the PPP government for its double standards and not treating the coalition partner with respect.
“If our minister can be sacked for indiscipline, why can’t the PPP sack its provincial minister for using provocative language against a coalition partner?” Fazl said while talking to reporters along with MQM leader Babar Ghauri after meeting with an MQM delegation.
The JUI-F chief criticised the prime minister for not sacking Zulfiqar Mirza on ‘disciplinary grounds’ as it did Azam Swati.
