ISLAMABAD – With the government’s efforts to woo JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman failing, President Asif Ali Zardari took the initiative himself and met Fazl after seeing off Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao at the Presidency on Saturday.
However, according to private TV channels there was no breakthrough in the two-hour-long meeting as Fazl continued to stick to his stance. After the Chinese PM left, President Zardari reportedly asked Fazl to stay back for a meeting, apparently to convince him to reverse his decision of quitting the coalition government.
However, President’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said he knew nothing about the meeting.
