MIRPURKHAS – Upon visiting graveyards in several districts of Sindh during Ashura, relatives discovered that land-mafia had grabbed the land that was once a resting place for the deceased.
Pakistan Today found out in a survey that more then 200 grave yards in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Tnado Allahyar, Jam Shoro, Hyderabad, Nawabshah and other districts of Sindh were occupied by land-grabbers and markets, mosques and Imam Barghas had been constructed on them.
In Mirpurkhas a strong and influential mafia of land grabbers have occupied Bhansinghabad, Foji , Ismail Shah , Dargha Taj Dhani , Umedan Bhariyo , Syed Sabu Shah graveyards.
A mosque or a madrassa have been constructed at the back to avoid demolition of the market constructed in the front. A visitor at a grave yard told Pakistan Today that last years their parents’ graves were there but now they were under the madrassa building.
Clerics of various sects said that occupying graveyards and destroying graves is a massive sin as well as a legal crime.
