PESHAWAR: In the first ever drone attack in Khyber Agency, a US unmanned aircraft targeted a vehicle in Speen Drang area of Bara tehsil’s Tirah valley on Thursday, killing seven suspected militants, tribal officials said.
The officials said a US drone fired a missile at a pick-up truck carrying seven suspected militants.
“The militants were said to be members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, and were from Waziristan and Swat areas,” a security official said.
Locals said the bodies were burnt beyong recognition.
Tribesmen said although US drones had flown over the agency in the past, it was the first time that the US had launched an attack inside Khyber.
They said the reason for the US restraint was that the Taliban had never been able to gain roots in the agency.
