KARACHI: Following a protest campaign by the heritage enthusiasts, the Sindh government has taken notice of the illegal construction at the centuries-old historical mosque built in the times of Arab warrior Mohammad Bin Qasim in Aror Sharif near Rohri in Sukkur district.
Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo announced that she would visit the site on Tuesday and personally observe the construction work with her department officials.
Palijo had ordered to stop the construction work a few days ago and sent a culture department team at the mosque to stop the work immediately.
Historians believe that the former capital city of Sindh, Aror was destroyed in a massive earthquake. Recently, an influential person started constructing a new structure of the mosque.
After media reports, the culture department, actual custodian of historical sites in Sindh, ordered to stop the illegal construction.
“On media reports, Palijo took notice and decided to personally look into the matter. She has initially ordered to stop the work immediately and will visit the site on Tuesday along with department officials and experts to enquire about the details of the construction work,” Culture Department PRO Hizbullah Memon told Pakistan Today.
