SUKKUR: Pakistan is looking forward to Chinese technology assistance to modernise its agriculture sector. “Though an agro-based country, our agriculture productivity is not up to the mark due to use of traditional measures,” said Shah Abdul Latif University (SALU) Professor Taj Muhammad Lashari.
Talking to APP, he hoped that the upcoming visit of the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Pakistan will give an opportunity to the two countries to further expand bilateral cooperation.
He viewed that China has recently shown keen interest to explore investment opportunities and cooperation in solar, hydro-electric and nuclear energy sectors of Pakistan; it should also look into expanded bilateral assistance to agriculture sector of the country.
“Considering the population of the country, China boosted the production of agricultural products on scientific and its expertise in this regard would greatly help us,” he observed.
Prof. Lashari said that multi-dimensional and deep-rooted relationship with China and long-standing ties of friendship between the two countries are underpinned by mutual trust and confidence.
He said that China is expanding its role as an observer and economic player in the region and it is investing in Afghanistan, adding that China wants stability in region and peace in two regional nuclear powers India and Pakistan.
