Pakistan delays WC squad announcement

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has put on hold the announcement of the team because of the delay in clearance of the two players from the International Cricket Council. The PCB has asked the ICC to clear Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal for selection in the New Zealand ODI series and the World Cup but till late, no reply was received and the board officials are further discussing the list.
An official of the board said: “A meeting of the selection committee was held on Wednesday at the PCB headquarters in which the squads for the ODI series in New Zealand and names of 30 probables for the upcoming ICC World Cup came under discussion.”
“A meeting of the PCB’s Integrity Committee was also held with Ijaz Butt in the chair. Other members of Integrity Committee, Subhan Ahmad (COO), Justice (retired) Jamshed Ali, Mohsin Hasan Khan (chief selector), Zakir Khan (DCO International), Sultan Rana (DCO Domestic), Col. Wasim (security manager/integrity officer) and Taffazul Rizvi Advocate (special invitee) attended the meeting,” he added.
He further said that all the issues relating to the clearance of players came under discussion. The committee decided that further consideration of this matter is required. “The ODI squad for New Zealand and for the World Cup will be announced at a later date,” he added. Pakistan has to submit the squad by December 19 for World Cup. It is also worth a mention that the PCB has sought the details of assets from Danish Kaneria, Mohammad Asif and other cricketers.
