PCB seeks ICC nod for Akmal, Malik inclusion in World Cup team

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has sought permission from the International Cricket Council for the selection of former captain Shoaib Malik and wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal in the 2011 World Cup team and the likely chance is that the team’s announcement would be delayed till the reply of the ICC.
It has been learnt that the PCB wants to include these two players in the World Cup as well as the ODI team for the New Zealand series and is waiting for the ICC response. Although the PCB has finalised the provisional 30-member team for the World Cup, it still wants keeper Akmal and Malik in the team.
According to sources, if the ICC allowed Kamran and Malik, they would be included in the probables. Meanwhile, the three probable players who would be part of the Pakistan ODI team for the New Zealand series and the World Cup would most likely be finalsied on Wednesday. The selection committee under Mohsin Khan met here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday and discussed the players performance in light of the coach and captain’s output and there was visible differences among the selection committee members as the Lahore based selectors were keeping themselves away from the final decisions.
