Threatening calls to Rehman Malik stir panic

ISLAMABAD: Three threatening phone calls at the office of Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday spread panic among the staff and visitors of the two Pak Secretariat blocks.
According to a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, unidentified callers made three phone calls at Malik’s office to inform his staff about a bomb at the office that would go off ‘shortly’, while adding that the office bombing would be followed by another blast at Malik’s residence in the evening. Soon after, an emergency was declared and the ‘R’ and ‘S’ blocks of the Pak Secretariat which houses the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Law and other ministries were immediately evacuated.
However, after a thorough search, the Bomb Disposal Squad cleared the building. Malik was present in his office when the hoax calls were made. The interior minister termed the incident a ‘ploy’ to prevent state authorities from taking action against terrorists. He went on to state that action against the TTP, al Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi would continue until all the government has achieved all objectives.
