KARACHI: The Sindh government on Monday appointed Naheed Durrani, the daughter of Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, as secretary Education Department while Ahmed Bux Narejo was appointed the new secretary to Sindh chief minister.
Narejo was waiting for posting while Durrani was serving as the Planning and Development Department secretary.
In another possible reshuffle, the provincial government has directed Mohammad Younus Dhaga, serving as the Sindh Investment Board Managing Director, to report at the Services and General Administration Department. Dhaga has previously served at different positions including the Information Department secretary.
On Friday, the government had transferred at least four secretaries of different departments including Chief Minister’s Secretary Abdul Kabeer Kazi, Education Secretary Alamuddin Billo, Zakat and Ushr Secretary Mukhtar Soomro and Labour Secretary Naseer Jamali.
Aamir Majeed adds: The new education secretary, Naheed Durrani, has replaced Elummuddin Billo Sources in the Sindh Education Department told Pakistan Today that the chief minister sidelined Elummuddin Billo without any good reason – the only rationale seemed to be the appointment of his daughter, Naheed Shah. Billo has now been posted as an OSD in the OGDC, sources said.
The chief minister manipulated the transfer, sources claimed, in an attempt to appease his daughter as she was not comfortable in her role at the P&D Department. Another of Qaim’s daughters, Nafeesa Shah, currently serves as the chairperson of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD).
Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazhar-ul Haq, meanwhile, has directed Billo not to leave office, and assured him that he will raise the matter with the provincial supremo.
The staff of the Education Department has also decided to protest Billo’s “illogical transfer,” sources claimed.
Sources said that four secretaries of the Education Department have been transferred without specific reasons during the tenure of the present government. The first to go was Shafique Khoso, with no reason provided.
He was followed by Rizwan Memon, who was also removed without any reason. Siddique Memon became the department’s third secretary in two years, sources narrated, but he too was sidelined after a few months.
They said the present secretary was the best of the lot, but the chief minister removed him from office without any reason or discussion with the provincial education minister.
