School bus bombed in Peshawar, 1 killed

PESHAWAR: One person was killed and another five injured when a school bus hit a roadside explosive device in Bhana Mari area of Peshawar on Monday.
According to details, the explosives planted in the area went off when the school bus, carrying schoolchildren of Islamia Model School, was passing by. A passer-by was killed and five people, including two students were injured. The deceased was identified as 14-year-old Farooq. The injured were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital, with the two wounded students identified as Eeman, 9, and Arsalan, 13.
Soon after the incident, rescue teams rushed to the scene to clear the site, while contingents of police and the Bomb Disposal Squad searched the area for more explosives.
Police also launched a search operation in the area and arrested a suspect from the crime scene. The Bomb Disposal Squad said around the six kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb. Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour also visited the crime scene and condemned the attack. “The terrorists are trying to spread their terror, but the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will face the attacks bravely,” he said, announcing Rs 300,000 for the family of the deceased and Rs 100,000 for each injured.
