LAHORE: The onset of winter has resulted in a sharp spike in the domestic sector’s consumption of gas. The domestic sector’s gas consumption is estimated to have more than doubled, in marked contrast to consumption in summer, resulting in a widening gap between demand and supply.
According to Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) press release, the distribution system has to be maintained at a certain level for smooth operations of compressor units and to ensure stable gas supply to all major centers.
It is claimed that under the present circumstances, SNGPL has been left with no alternative but to suspend gas supply of the industrial sector. It is a meant to be a temporary arrangement to provide uninterrupted gas supply to the domestic consumers on the system. It is hoped that restrictions to the industrial sector shall be accordingly reduced, the statement added.
