LAHORE: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hassan on Monday said that the rulers at the centre and in the provinces had agreed on the levy of the RGST under the US dictations as both were in the run to prove their obedience to Washington.
He said this while talking to media at Mansoora after addressing the JI central workshop. He said Opposition’s stance against Reformed General Sale Tax (RGST) was only to befool the masses and if it was sincere to the people, it should adopt a resolution against it in the Punjab Assembly. He said the government and the Opposition were the two sides of the same coin, one was availing his turn while the other was waiting.
He said the federal government could not enforce the RGST without provincial government s’ support. He was, however, sure that the government would not be able to enforce the oppressive tax due to the public opposition. The JI chief suggested the formation of a new regional bloc consisting of China, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan to foil the US designs for enforcing its New World Order.
He said, the rulers were fulfilling terms to secure IMF loan. In the year 2008, the rulers had assured the IMF about the enforcement of the Value Added Tax but it could not be levied because of the nation’s unity against it.
He said the JI would obstruct the levy of the RGST with the public support. The JI chief welcomed the unity of all religious forces on the blasphemy law and advised the rulers to abandon the idea to amend the law. He accused the Punjab government of destroying the education system and said the privatization of educational institutions was a conspiracy to close the door of education to the poor and middle class youth. He said the government had failed to stop college teachers and students’ protest against its policies despite worst police torture.
Workshop In-charge Hafiz Muhammad Idrees, Jehad Council chairman Syed Salahuddin and Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Maulana Muhammad Javed Kasuri also addressed the workshop.
