MA Zuberi passes away

KARACHI: After a prolonged illness, eminent journalist MA Zuberi breathed his last on Sunday. He will be buried in the compound of Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar in Karachi today (Monday). The funeral prayers will be offered at Masjid Noorul Islam in Zamzama Park after Zoher prayers.
He is survived by three sons, two daughters.Born in Merehra in India on July 2, 1920, Zuberi was considered the pioneer of economic and financial journalism in Pakistan.
He entered the field in December 1945 when he joined the Delhi chapter of Dawn under the guidance of Quaid-e-Azam.
A widely-travelled man, he represented Pakistan at various international forums, including the Commonwealth Press Union, and annual meetings of the United Nations, the World Bank and the IMF.
Zuberi was the former president and one of the founding members of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE). He was the editor-in-chief and founding editor of Business Recorder, the first business daily of the Muslim World. He also served as former senior assistant editor of Dawn. He was also the Patron-in-Chief of Aaj News.
As senior assistant editor at Dawn Karachi, he launched the Evening Star. He retired from Dawn Karachi after serving the organisation for nearly 20 years.
He was also the recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
