Punjab Tennis Championship gets underway

LAHORE: The Punjab Tennis Championship sponsored by Service Industries rolled into action here at the Bagh-e-Jinnah’s courts on Thursday. Tournament Director Rashid Malik said that keeping in view the extensive interest in the championship, they have decided to hold the men’s singles event on the opening day and many seeded junior players have made it to the next round. The championship will be featuring players of the under-12, 14, 18 categories.
Men’s and women’s categories have been kept open for all the players of the country. Opening day results: Men’s singles first round: Shoaib Akbar beat Haseeb Wali 6-0, Khulvne Shahid beat Ghulam Muhammad 6-4, Saad Mubarik beat Adnan Amir 6-0, Rai Asim Zafar beat Ali Raga 6-2, Faizam Khurram beat M Bilal 6-0, Ali Ammar beat Mahad Baig 6-2, Haris Khan beat Fahad Masood 6-3, Amir Saleem beat Sohaib Waseem 6-1, Rehan Baber beat M Haseeb Khan 7-6, Ashar Ali Khan beat Masoom Ahmad 6-0, Shehryer Salmat beat Omer Khan 6-1, Sikandar Hayat beat M Sami 7-5, Saif Ali beat Adnan Aslam 6-2, Ali Shazaib beat Saad Zafar 6-4, Bilal beat Omer Sheikh 6-0, Khuram Nazir beat Ali Raza 6-0.
